A pine marten – typically found in the Scottish Highlands – has been\nspotted in a Kent seaside town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creatures are “incredibly rare” in England but have been\nsighted numerous times in Broadstairs<\/strong><\/a> in recent months, to the\nsurprise of wildlife enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julie\nBalsom spotted the elusive creature in her garden near Stone Bay at about\n5.30am on Thursday, when it appeared to be chasing a squirrel around the base\nof a tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eagle-eyed\nsocial media users were quick to identify it as a pine marten, and were rightly\nshocked to see it in Kent – hundreds of miles away from its typical habitat in\nthe north of Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it is not the first time the creature has been spotted in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June, CCTV captured a pine marten scampering near cars parked in the\nfront drive of a Broadstairs<\/strong><\/a> home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nvideos have prompted many others to report similar sightings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nwrote: “This is what I saw in Minnis Bay! I couldn\u2019t place it at all, very\ndark in colour, cat sized but didn\u2019t move like a cat. Wow, didn\u2019t know we had\nthem round here.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another\nsaid: “I saw a similar creature jump out of a tree, very otter in shape, could\nbe this chap.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another\nwoman said: “I live in central Broadstairs and saw it outside my house in\nthe early hours of Sunday morning.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Animal\nconservation charity Wildwood Trust says pine martens are “incredibly\nrare” in England, and that it is monitoring the movements of the creature\nspotted in Thanet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
