My wonderful time in Broadstairs

Sami, from Germany, recently studied with us on a university students’ course. Here’s what he had to say about his Hilderstone experience.

The aim of the journey coming to Hilderstone College was to improve my English skills and to get to know the English culture. I was not expecting to have an unforgettable time.

It was my first time being in the UK and staying with a host family. My host parents, David and Tracy, are such welcoming people. After nearly every dinner every day we had all had valuable and sometimes funny conversations. We laughed a lot and learned so much about each other. This was very important to me, because it allowed me to practise my English and at the same time, we were able to learn about each other in the process.

We explored the area together around Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate. We even took a trip together to Whitstable.

The teachers at the college were very professional and patient, we worked in small groups of 11 people. I have learned a lot from the discussions we had in the class. Everyone had to do a presentation, so we had 11 different and very interesting presentations. Moreover, we always received feedback from our teachers after the discussions we had. That was remarkably helpful. After my presentation my teacher sent me a PDF file via e-mail, so that I knew which aspects I could improve at or pay attention to.

The wide and various social programmes which the college offered were amazing. I enjoyed the dancing evening the most. Furthermore, I went on trips to London, Cambridge, and Greenwich. I can strongly recommend participating.

After college, most of the time the other students and I went on walks to the beach and played beach volleyball together. We really enjoyed playing on the beautiful beach of Broadstairs. The college lent us a beach volleyball net and a ball. When you are there and you want to play just ask the College staff.

In the evenings the other students and I went to the local pubs. My favourite one is “The Chapel”.

After the wonderful three weeks I had and the experiences I made, I think that Hilderstone college is a wonderful place for everyone who is trying to improve their English skills and have a wonderful time in the UK.
