Turner Contemporary, Margate

Lynne Hoenes, our Head of Marketing, loves this local art gallery and writes here about her reasons.

How fortunate we are to have Turner Contemporary art gallery located in our local area, with its varied and dynamic exhibitions, events and workshops, for everyone to enjoy. Entry is free of charge.

The Turner Contemporary opened in 2011 to celebrate the artist, JMW Turner’s, links to Margate. Turner visited Margate regularly to paint the sea and skies. He once remarked “the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe”.

Exhibitions combine historical and contemporary works of art, engaging old and young, and people from all walks of life. The building itself is inspirational, with wonderful sea views and beautiful light. How very fortunate are we.

The photo is from the recent exhibition “A place that exists only in moonlight” by Katie Paterson and JMW Turner.
