What I love about Broadstairs

by Tiago Pinheiro Tiago studied at Hilderstone College thirty years ago, yet he still has treasured memories of his time here, as you will see! I first visited Broadstairs in January 1991. I stayed for a month while studying at Hilderstone College. I was obviously mesmerised by the architecture and the beautiful beaches. But there […]

‘One of my best ideas in a long time’

We were delighted to receive this wonderful review by Yana, 16, from Russia. During the lessons she always smiled and had a great time. We really enjoyed teaching her. Perhaps this photo was taken when she realised she had no more classes… It was great to meet you Yana and we look forward to seeing […]

A month in Broadstairs

By JAN KUSÁK from the Czech Republic As you’d expect, it’s a lot quieter at Hilderstone College this year due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. However, the Hilderstone team (and our industry as a whole) are doing everything possible to offer students a really positive experience of their time in the UK. What’s more, if you […]

MORELLI’S

MORELLI’S ICE CREAM PARLOUR is located on the seafront in Broadstairs overlooking Viking Bay. It was founded in 1932 and is still in the Morelli family today. This parlour is a nostalgic step back in time with its furnishings and décor, juke box and seating booths.

NORTH FORELAND LIGHTHOUSE

North Foreland Lighthouse, along the coast between Broadstairs and Margate, was built in 1691. It was first lit by fire in 1499! The lighthouse is probably one of the most photographed local landmarks in the Isle of Thanet.

CHARLES DICKENS PUB AND DINING ROOMS

The building is around 200 years old and in the late 1800s was an entertainment venue. From the early 1900s it had other uses (including a café) but has been a pub since the 1960s and is now named after a very famous visitor to Broadstairs!

Student PhD success story!

Meet Mine. Mine came to Hilderstone College in 2012 in order to improve her English so that she could take the IELTS exam. She was the writer’s first ever student at Hilderstone. She was enthusiastic and she worked hard. After two attempts, she got the grade she needed to do a Pre-Sessional Course at the […]
