CHARLES DICKENS PUB AND DINING ROOMS

The building is around 200 years old and in the late 1800s was an entertainment venue. From the early 1900s it had other uses (including a café) but has been a pub since the 1960s and is now named after a very famous visitor to Broadstairs!

Student PhD success story!

Meet Mine. Mine came to Hilderstone College in 2012 in order to improve her English so that she could take the IELTS exam. She was the writer’s first ever student at Hilderstone. She was enthusiastic and she worked hard. After two attempts, she got the grade she needed to do a Pre-Sessional Course at the […]

THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP, Broadstairs

Dating back to 1588 and close to the sea, The Old Curiosity Shop in our town of Broadstairs was connected with smuggling long ago, but is now a popular cafe and a popular subject for photographers! It is named after a novel by Charles Dickens, who spent a lot of time in Broadstairs. #HilderstoneExperience #hilderstone […]

Czech dance academy supports the Hilderstone 100!

By walking, running or dancing, they have added at least 45 km to our […]

In later years, it offered protection against smugglers and our enemies, should we become under attack. Now there are no doors but this very important and beautiful arch remains. It […]

ONLINE COURSE REVIEW: ‘I really enjoyed the language course.’

Christina, from Germany, recently participated in an online course focusing on Academic English, with other university students. Here’s what she had to say about her Hilderstone experience. I took part in a 3-week online course at Hilderstone College in September 2020. I felt a bit suspicious before because the course had to be online, but […]

See the seals in Thanet!

We are very lucky to have a seal colony in our area, and it’s a popular short trip from our neighbouring town of Ramsgate. Within half-an-hour of leaving Ramsgate harbour, the boat stops near the coast and you can see seals, of all different colours and sizes, lying sleepily on the shore or swimming and […]
